Yeah I saw it when I was on holiday in the States, fortunately long enough since that first post that I'd forgotten most of the gags.
Pretty much what Ben said for me also.

Gaiman episode wasn't anywhere near as good as his last one but I still enjoyed it. The children were pretty pointless, episode would have been fine without them.
Looking forward to getting some answers (and hopefully more questions too!) to the Clara conundrum.

So is there a consensus view on this (I could read 5 pages . . . but I'm not going to!)? Worth a punt?

Tonight's episode was the best of the series (with the exception of one horribly forced joke, you'll cringe when you hear it). Had a bit of everything which can make Dr Who great. Considering that the previous best episode with the submarine was also a Gatiss penned episode I can only conclude that he should take over from Moffat as show runner.
Gaiman episode next week, has a lot to live up to when the last one was so good.

I was not aware the existed. Some of them sound horrendous, others potentially excellent. I quite like the idea of watching the Dark Knight in a Memento style timeline.

« on: April 24, 2013, 09:32:07 pm »I played the first few missions, this game is fantastic!
Concur! The music, the plans going wrong and attempting to run away in the chaos, it's really delightful.
I have an absolute refusal (after going crazy in the first mission) to pick up the shotguns - somehow shooting guards feels a bit wrong.
Handiest characters for me so far are the lookout and the mole. Lookout allowing a bit more planning instead of running into trouble too easily, mole because of stealing your stuff by going through walls! Pickpocket seems a bit rubbish unless I'm missing a trick.
Love the way it looks, love the little touches (if you're waiting near a wall and hear a guard walk past you can see footsteps on the blueprint where they are walking as a visual aid - it's lovely, as are the hacking visuals.
Definitely can see why it won the IGF - glad we can finally play it now.
Also I'm definitely up for some multiplayer if I can find the time - I sense being rubbish is half the fun!
Added
Goofed around having a multiplayer match with randoms, was good fun (I reckon it would be less fun if they'd been using voice chat - I bet there'd always be someone trying to take things seriously!) but I think it would be better (as with all multiplayer) with a bunch of friends around the telly.

I have bought it and am just about to give it a whirl. Will probably take me a while to feel I'm not too inept for multiplayer though!

Isn't it going to be alternating between proper films and character spin off films so there's something every year or some such?
That's going to be over saturated and rubbish that is.
The thing with this is, if it's good it's going to be a pleasant surprise. If not then . . . well hopefully it's shit enough that we can at least have a laugh at it.

I'm doing another marathon, Helsinki in August. Until yesterday (when I ran 8k or so) I hadn't ran since the first one I did which was almost a year ago. I've been playing plenty squash though, so my base fitness is grand (if a little down on peak after 2 weeks heavy eating and boozing on holiday!). I'd forgotten how hard road running is on the legs though, I did a fairly gentle run to ease myself back into it and my quads felt pretty tight today, will probably do a bit more treadmill running initially to get the muscles used to it again before going back on the road.
Haven't set a goal yet - my natural competitive side wants to better my previous time (3:24:07) and in its extremely optimistic moments fancies a go at under 3 hours, but that would require "super serious training TM" and that's not something I have time for at the moment so I might just train up to be fit enough to run it and see how it goes on the day (it just seems kind of pointless to go through that and not at least try to beat my time!).

Submarine episode was much better. Though seeing as I watched it straight after Game of Thrones I kept thinking of Davos and Edmure!

« on: March 31, 2013, 08:57:02 pm »I thought this episode was okay, again quite standard New Who.
Yeah, I felt the same. Can't help but feel they're trying to disguise the face that Clara is a rather generic companion by trying to build up a sense of mystery around her. I'd almost rather they didn't bother, as she's likeable and it just seems lie they're trying a bit too hard (maybe that will change though).
Hopefully there's a couple of strong standalone episodes round the corner, this sort of stuff is watchable enough but not something I'd point people towards to say why Dr Who is a good thing TM.

Haven't got around to it yet but I've heard it's a bit "meh" and one of the more favourable reviews compared it to the vastly overrated Limmy's Shpw (some Scots will tell you that the rest of the country is missing out - but on this occasion they'd be wrong as it's mostly shite).
So a bit wary but will give it a chance at some point.

Phew . . . for a minute I thought this was going to be a topic singing the praises of professional bell end Jeremy Hunt.

People in clothes shop's you delight in telling you what a bargain you've just acquired when said item is only a bargain in a parallel universe where cotton is a much rarer resource. Some people in retail are guilty of this sort of nonsense and I'll get irked when they say such things but I automatically judge people who work in the "fashion industry" as people with absolutely no sense of perspective.
