Mouse Controls
Lambchops:
Hate to ge a negative Nancy (negancy?) but at first pass that sounds little better than crosshair and keys and perhaps worse with the added faff of having to press a button to get ready to shoot. Though I'm disctincly getting the impression that I'm not quite understanding what you mean.
Maybe you could explain in pictures so stupid kids in the back of the class (ie me!) can understand.
Actually I was about to draw what I thought you meant in paint for comedy value and then when I thought about it I got it and thought "y'know that might actually work!"
it's kind of like, you right click and then it's kind of like aiming the shotgun in Worms (moved with the mouse rather than the up/down keys obv), but you can move simultaneously. Have I got it now? If that is it then i actually think it's pretty good. I guess it could work as a difficulty adjustment as well as you could have an option to turn, say, a laser sight on or off depending on whether you wanted a challenge.
I hope I haven't misunderstood this twice in a row and that last paragraph makes sense, else I'm going to look a right berk!
delve:
I understood him to mean:
1. Hold RMB
2. Aim with mouse (sans crosshair, guesstimate from weapon angle). I'm assuming the 'power' of the shot is constant and we're not dealing with a Flash game aiming mechanic.
3. Release RMB to fire.
All of which sounds a lot more fiddly and difficult than a basic WASD+mousetarget setup. But, y'know, I'd have to play it to say.
Dan:
Almost. RMB aims, so hold it down and he extends his arm. Up and down raises/ lowers the angle. LMB shoots.
It feels kind of like aiming in an FPS, as opposed to shooting from the hip. I'll probably add in an LMB unwinds quickfire too, we'll see.
May do a closed test arena so people can have a fiddle.
Lambchops:
In which case I guess it depends if you need to use LMB to control other aspects of the game other than shooting. If so then pressing RMB to aim may be neccesary, if not then it's just an added complication and you may as well have the gun extended all the time.
Dan:
No, it's that the 'gun arm' is actually your 'tech arm' - so whether you're using a gun or telekinesis or whatever, that's your current 'gadget'.
The pace of the game is quite slow, atm. It's not Gunstar Heroes - using your gun really is a last resort (unless you're just on a killing spree).
It feels more involved pressing RMB, looks less odd (having him perma-point the gun is a bit silly), and opens it up for other tech (telekinesis, bombs etc)
