Visual Studio
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:08:36 am »
I've always used Visual Studio EXPRESS. Because it's free. I probably only use about 30% of the things it does anyway, because I'm an idiot.

Is it worth buying Visual Studio PROPER? Does anyone use it? I can't really see if being massively more useful, unless Express' error reports are deliberately gimped or something.

I use Professional at work, for the price I don't think it's worth it. The main extra thing for me is add-on support, there are some really useful ones(for tidying code, highlighting words throughout a document for example) but they're not worth what about £400?

I'm not sure if debugging is better in Pro, I don't really do much work at home anymore on Express.

Advanced mode in Visual Studio Express is just as good as proper retail IMO, I haven't had any situations where I've been "oh god I can't use this in express because it's only in proper retail"

Plus it's free. I use proper visual studio for uni work (because I get any Microsoft software (apart from office) for freesies from microsoft), but express for indiework.
