All we need now is for Dan to see it and disagree with all of us!

Pacific Rim Uprising is out and it's terrible! The original is no masterpiece but it's a fun big monsters fighting movie, the sequel is not. Set ten years later it follow's Idris Elba's son mainly, but also some teenage recruits who are the new pilots and some of the scientists are back from the first movie. Also there's a woman and both the main men are into her who's gonna get her? I still don't know, it's left unresolved and is totally pointless because it's there for about 60 seconds in total. Talk about just ticking the boxes. Nothing makes a whole lot of sense, it's ten years since the war ended, but I thought the war ended when they closed the rift? Didn't that stop monsters coming through? But that doesn't really line up with the ages of people but anyway moving on, it drags so bad. It's like an hour before there's any proper fighting. An hour! The movie lasts about an hour and 45 minutes! The action isn't as good as before, it has that problem with the good guys deliberately leveling one of their own cities in the fight, you know the place they're meant to be protecting. They add in a big final target that the Kaiju have been after all along, which makes no sense considering how long the attacks had been going on previously that they never got to it.

I had low expectations and it didn't meet them, they least I've enjoyed a movie in recent memory.

It seems to be getting generally mediocre or muddled reviews. Shame. I was going to go see it at the cinema but then I realised that it seemed unlikely the 3D would be as good as the original, so I'll catch it on VOD at some point.
I watched the first one again and for some reason enjoyed the plot a lot more. Except the two scientists - cutting them entirely (except for a couple of lines of exposition near the end which you could give to someone else) would make the film so much tighter.

Finally watched Uprising, and Paul is on the money about everything.
A bland script full of zero-dimensional characters that makes the original look like Shakespeare and makes some major bone-headed mistakes, like being a mechs vs kaiju movie with almost no kaiju in it, and pissing away its one cool idea, which actually makes the dreadful over-used scientist characters from the first movie interesting, by *under-using* them.

From the director/co-writer: "If enough people show up to this, we've already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise or series] where you can go in many, many different directions... You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that's the plan." This is part of the reason your movie sucked, because you were franchise-chasing.

I don't remember you mentioning it. It's got that bloke from Attack The Block and new Star Wars in it as Idris Elba's son, and a young girl who's made her own little jaegar...

It's nice when all three of us agree on a movie!

I like that these forums have now become so empty that it can be referred to as "all three of us".
